36-year-old Oceanside man died after a motorcycle crash near Ocotillo Wells (San Diego, CA)

A 36-year-old Oceanside man lost his life following a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in the Ocotillo Wells area.

The motorcycle rider, only identified as a 36-year-old Oceanside man, succumbed to his injuries at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. The fatal motorcycle crash was reported just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at 5841 State Route 78.

The rider, on a KTM EXC-450 motorcycle, pulled over on the southbound lane of SR-78, west of Split Mountain Road. At that point of time, a 59-year-old man was driving west on SR-78 in a Kenworth truck, with a propane tank trailer.

The preliminary reports showed that the motorcyclist failed to notice the approaching vehicle and entered the roadway. At that point of time, the motorcyclist hit the right side of the truck-tractor and was thrown onto the roadway.

The truck driver remained unharmed in the accident. Authorities believe that drugs or alcohol did not contribute to the collision. The truck driver, who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is not facing any charges. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
