On Monday evening, a 36-year-old man, from Burbank, lost his life while a woman suffered serious injuries following a head-on collision in Mendocino County.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at around 6:26 p.m. on Highway 101 in the Redwood Valley area north of Ukiah, just south of the West Road exit. The early reports showed that the driver of the Toyota Prius, identified only as a 36-year-old man, was heading north when his vehicle went over the highway’s center median into oncoming traffic.
After that, the Toyota crashed head-on into a Jeep Grand Cherokee in a southbound lane. The driver of the Toyota Prius died of his injuries after the accident. On arrival, emergency crews rushed the female driver of the Jeep to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Her passenger did not receive any injuries as a result of the collision.
According to the authorities, it is unclear if the driver of the Toyota was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
