On early Sunday, 35-year-old Joshua Dore, a resident of Breaux Bridge, lost his life following a bicycle crash in Livingston Parish while officers arrested 59-year-old Terrell Turner, from Walker, on suspicion of DWI.
The fatal two-vehicle accident took place at about 2 a.m. on La. 16 near Denham Springs. The preliminary reports indicated that Dore was heading south in the southbound lane of LA Hwy 16 on a Huffy bicycle and Turner was going southbound on LA Hwy 16 behind Dore in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado.
Just then, the Chevrolet rear-ended the bicycle for reasons that are yet to be known. Dore suffered major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. It is unknown if Dore was impaired, but a routine toxicology sample was taken from him and will be submitted for analysis. Impairment is believed to be involved in the collision on the part of Turner.
Officers mentioned that he initially fled the scene before returning shortly after. Turner was booked with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, hit and run driving, obstruction of justice, filing a false police report and reckless operation.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
