Authorities identified 35-year-old Dominic G Njuguna, from Lakewood, as the man who lost his life after getting struck by a vehicle on March 25 while he was crossing Interstate 5 in Kent.
The fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at around 4:32 p.m. along northbound I-5 near State Route 516. According to the investigation reports, a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup, driven by a 63-year-old Ocean Park man, was northbound in lane 5 just north of South 260th Street. For unknown reasons, the vehicle hit a pedestrian who was crossing the northbound lanes from east to west in the HOV lane.
The pedestrian, identified as Dominic G Njuguna, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident. The freeway was shut down for around 2 hours and 30 minutes as crews worked at the scene. No other details are immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
