Authorities identified 34-year-old Carlos Brasil, of Merced, as the victim who died following a single-vehicle accident on Friday near Stevinson.
The fatal car crash was reported a little before 10 p.m. in the area of River and Blow roads. According to the investigation reports, Brasil was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry east on River Road just west of Blow Road at a high rate of speed when the car drifted off the north shoulder of the roadway.
After that, the side of the vehicle crashed into an oak tree. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Carlos Brasil, suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under review.
