On Saturday morning, a 33-year-old South Gate woman lost her life following a fiery crash on a freeway transition road in Gardena.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. on the transition road from the northbound 405 Freeway to the southbound 110 Freeway. The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was driving a 2002 Acura MDX on the transition road at an unknown rate of speed when the SUV swerved to the left for undetermined reasons. The car then hit the concrete median wall on the south side of the road and rolled over onto the concrete median.
The impact ejected the woman from the vehicle and the car got engulfed in flames. The driver was alert and conscious while being tended to by medical personnel. She was rushed by ambulance to Harbor UCLA Hospital. The woman died of her injuries at the hospital. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified. Drugs and alcohol did not seem to be involved in the accident. No further information was provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
