Authorities confirmed that a 31-year-old man died of injuries he suffered following a traffic collision on Friday just south of the Heights.
The fatal motorcycle crash took place at 21700 Katy Freeway at about 7:15 a.m. According to the investigation reports, the victim was riding his motorcycle eastbound when he and a white Ford Escape simultaneously tried to merge into the same lane of traffic.
The motorcycle rear-ended the car as a result of which the motorcycle rider was thrown from the bike. Officials reported that the man might have been struck by a tractor-trailer after falling off the bike; however, the tractor-trailer was not at the scene. The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
The driver of the Ford Escape was questioned and released at the scene, and display no signs of being impaired. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No further details were provided.
An investigation is continuing.
