On Saturday night, a motorcyclist from Stockton crashed into another vehicle during a police chase.
The California Highway Patrol claimed that one of their officers tried to stop a Harley-Davidson travelling at a high rate of speed on State Route 12 west of Interstate 5 at roughly 11:44 p.m. The motorcycle rider resisted the officer’s attempt, which led to a brief pursuit.
The motorcycle was travelling at 70 mph on Harney Lane toward Stockton Street, according to the CHP. A pickup truck was taking a U-turn from Harney Lane at the same time. The motorcyclist ran the red light and crashed into the pickup truck, incurring critical injuries.
The motorcyclist was declared dead at the San Joaquin County General Hospital.
The driver of the pickup truck escaped the fatal collision without any injuries.
The motorcycle crash is being investigated by the CHP.
