On early Tuesday morning, a 30-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a big rig in Castaic.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash was reported at about 2:15 AM on the northbound 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes Road. The early reports showed that a white International Navistar was heading northbound on I-5 Golden State Freeway, north of Lake Hughes Road at about 55 mph.
At some point of time, a female pedestrian ran across traffic lanes and got hit by the big rig. The vehicle struck the pedestrian within traffic lanes, which pushed the woman several feet before coming to rest. The 30-year-old pedestrian died of her injuries before the arrival of the officers. The woman was declared dead at 2:33 a.m.
The No. 4 lane was shut down for around 3.5 hours as crews worked at the scene. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other information has been provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
