A 29-year-old woman lost her life after a piece of scrap metal being towed in front of her became loose, and pierced through her windshield on Thursday afternoon.
The early reports showed that a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Nine Mile was towing a trailer of scrap metal, when, for an unknown reason, the trailer got separated and a piece of debris cut through the windshield of the car she was driving westbound.
The 29-year-old woman ended up crashing her vehicle and suffered serious head trauma. She was rushed to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Nine Mile Road is shut down at Northwestern and drivers are urged to find alternate routes while crews work at the scene. No other details are available.
The incident remains under investigation.
