On Wednesday, 28-year-old Amberae L Sweowa died after her vehicle ran off the roadway and hit a guardrail in a remote section of Yakima County.
Deputies, firefighters, and Yakama Nation Tribal Police officers ll responded to the crash scene. The fatal single-vehicle crash took place at the intersection of Stephenson Road and Evans Road at about 9:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation showed that the woman, who was the sole occupant of the 2009 Ford Focus, sustained serious head trauma after the collision.
On arrival, responders found the woman dead inside her vehicle. According to the officials, the woman was traveling north on Stephenson Road approaching the intersection with Evans Road when she nodded off. She reportedly veered off the west side of the White Swan roadway and crashed into the end of a metal guardrail, which broke through the car’s windshield and tore the roof off her vehicle.
Officials believe that intoxication did not play a factor in the accident. The woman was buckled up at the time of the crash. Her family was notified about the accident. YCSO officials stated that the roads were dry and the weather was clear when the crash occurred. No other details were provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
