27-year-old man died after a car crashed into a tree in Santa Cruz County (Santa Cruz County, CA)

A 27-year-old man, from San Jose, lost his life following a single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in Santa Cruz County.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place just after 7:00 a.m. on Highway 17. The early reports showed that a 2003 Volvo driven by the man went over the embankment along Southbound Hwy 17 just past Vine Hill Rd.

The driver was thrown from the car after his vehicle crashed into a tree. Caltrans announced a Sig Alert at 8:45 a.m. A detour was in place for southbound traffic to use the northbound lanes for very short intervals. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No further details are available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
