The Washington State Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday in Auburn. The accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of State Route 18, near 312th Street.
According to the officials, a 2017 Mazda CX-3 was headed west in the eastbound lanes. It crashed into a 2019 Chevy Equinox UT head-on.
The driver of the Chevy, identified as 27-year-old Karl Ortiz, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, identified only as a 38-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for moderate injuries.
The 38-year-old man has since been taken into custody for the investigation of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
The fatal crash is still being investigated at this time.
