The New Mexico State Police reported a motor vehicle crash in Pecos. The accident happened on SR 50 at around 12:30 a.m.
Gene Romero, 26 was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram when he drove onto the shoulder and overcorrected, according to the NMSP’s preliminary investigation. His truck slammed into a car that was driving east on the highway as a result.
Romero was declared dead at the scene, and the other car’s driver was taken to the hospital. Unknown is the other driver’s state of health.
Police claim that alcohol may have played a role in the collision. NMSP is looking into the fatal crash.
