26-year-old Shawnkel Washington was identified as the woman who lost her life after getting struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Arlington Heights.
The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at about 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Wilton Place. The preliminary reports showed that a white Nissan sedan hit a woman who was crossing the street at the intersection. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and her family identified her as Shawnkel Washington.
Washington was reportedly coming back home when a driver ran a red light and struck her. After Washington was hit, the sedan pulled over and the driver stepped out of the vehicle momentarily, but then got back into his car and took off. Authorities have sought public’s help in finding the hit-and-run driver. No other details are available.
