On Tuesday night, 25-year-old Lakewood man was killed after being hit by two vehicles on Interstate 5 in Tacoma.
The fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place at approximately 9:55 p.m. on the interstate, north of Portland Avenue East. According to the investigation reports, the pedestrian was standing in a northbound traffic lane when he got struck by a vehicle. The man was reportedly standing in a travel lane when he was hit by a Chevy sedan going north in the same lane.
Shortly after, a second vehicle hit the victim. Multiple agencies responded to the crash scene. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Officials shut down the left three lanes for two and a half hours as crews worked at the scene. Reports further added that the driver of the Chevy Sedan, a 60-year-old man, pulled over after the collision, but the second driver whose vehicle hit the man did not stop.
Officials suspect the victim was trying to kill himself by walking into traffic. On Tuesday morning, Authorities stated that they wanted to contact the second driver who struck the pedestrian, but they said the driver might not have realized they struck someone. According to the police, most of the impact was taken by the first vehicle. No other details are available.
