On Tuesday morning, 25-year-old Javier Edgardo Castro Romero, a Temple man, was killed and three others suffered injuries after a multi-vehicle pile-up on FM 2843.
Officers actively responded to the crash scene on FM 2843, just east of I-35 a little before 6:45 a.m. As per the initial reports, a Dodge pickup, driven by a 24-year-old man, was heading east on FM 2843 around a curve when it went into the westbound lane and struck a Nissan pickup and a Toyota car.
The force of the collision pushed the Toyota off of the north side of the road and into a water-filled ditch. On arrival, medics transported the driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the car, along with the driver of the Dodge to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center with non-critical injuries.
Castro Romero was declared deceased at the scene. Officials mentioned that they do not know why the Dodge crossed the double yellow line and drifted into oncoming traffic. The identities of the injured victims have not been revealed at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
