According to the Lafayette Police Department, a police officer was dragged by a car for approximately 100 feet.
The incident was reported at around 1:20 a.m., when Jaylin Terrel Chavis,24, of Lake Charles, was driving recklessly in the 400 block of Jefferson Street. The police attempted to stop the driver.
According to Sgt. Robin Green, Chavis fled from the Police but got stuck at a roadblock. The driver ran over an officer in an attempt to reverse the vehicle and escape.
The officer was rushed to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The police have booked Chavis under charges of attempted first-degree murder, reckless operation, resisting an officer with force or violence and OWI.
The identity of the officer involved in the motor vehicle accident has not been disclosed by the Lafayette Police Department.
