On Tuesday, authorities identified 24-year-old Gerardo Becerra as the victim who died following a two-vehicle accident Monday in San Diego.
The fatal car crash took place on State Route 163 north of Friars Road. The investigation reports showed that Becerra was driving a Ford Fusion sedan northbound at high speed when their car slammed into the back of a commercial trash truck in the slower right-hand lane.
At that time, the truck had its hazard lights on for “undetermined reasons” and was going at a low speed in the lane. Becerra suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The impact badly mangled the front of Becerra’s vehicle, which sat on the freeway for more than an hour after the collision while crews worked at the scene.
Becerra’s official cause of death and the factors contributing to it are still under investigation. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
