Authorities identified 24-year-old Eliana Leigh Shoemate as the woman who lost her life after being struck by a vehicle on Friday, July 22, 2022 in Killeen.
The fatal auto-pedestrian crash was reported at around 1:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of W. Elms Road. The preliminary investigation showed that Shoemate failed to yield right of way to driver heading east in the outside lane when she stepped into the roadway.
Shoemate was hit and rushed to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with major injuries. The woman died of her injuries and was declared dead at 3:15 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. No criminal charges are pending for this incident. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
