Authorities identified 23-year-old Imari Pritchett as the woman who lost her life after getting struck by a vehicle early Monday morning in Chandler.
The fatal hit-and-run crash took place on the eastbound side of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway near Price Road. The preliminary reports showed that the woman crashed her vehicle into a wall for unknown reasons. After the first crash, an off-duty Chandler police officer tried to tell Imari Pritchett to stay inside her SUV.
However, she stepped out and was crossing the freeway when a 36-year-old Chandler man in a 2015 Subaru Outback struck her in the HOV lane. Pritchett succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The man initially stopped and called 911, informed the operator he had hit something, but then took off. Authorities looked up his address using his phone number and found him at his Chandler home, where he was detained.
He faces DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal collision charges. More charges are pending at this time. The eastbound lanes of the Loop 202 San Tan freeway lanes were shut down near McClintock Drive but reopened around 7:30 a.m. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
