Authorities identified 23-year-old Gerardo Morales-Gonzalez and 24-year-old Samuel Villachavez as the victims who were injured after a head-on collision early Saturday in Cashmere.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle accident took place on Highway 2. The preliminary reports showed that Gerardo Morales-Gonzalez was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Classic sedan while 26-year-old Renee E Reeves was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot.
The reports also revealed that the driver of the Honda Pilot stopped in the left turn lane to make a turn onto Aplets Way. At that point of time, the Chevy sedan went over the center lane and collided with the Pilot head-on. Both vehicles ended up blocking both the westbound and eastbound lanes after the impact.
Gerardo Morales-Gonzalez of Wenatchee and his passenger, 24-year-old Samuel Villachavez were taken to Central Washington Hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the Pilot, Renee Reeves, of Wenatchee, remained unharmed in the accident.
Villachavez remained at the hospital with a broken femur. Officers charged Gonzalez with DUI and vehicular assault. At 5:11 a.m., Highway 2 was reopened to traffic. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
