23-year-old Chase Nelson dies after speeding car flips over and catches fire in Peoria (Peoria, AZ)

A speeding car claimed life of 23-year-old Chase Nelson, after the vehicle struck a curb in Peoria, rolled over several times, and caught fire on early Monday.

The incident took place at about 3 a.m. at 83rd and Peoria Avenues. Emergency crews ejected Chase Nelson from the car and moved him to the hospital. However, he succumbed from his injuries and died in the hospital. Meanwhile, medics shifted the driver to the hospital with non- life-threatening injuries. Officials did not release the name of the driver.

An officer first saw the white sedan traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on 83rd Avenue near Bell Road and tried to stop it. The car turned around and fled towards South on 83rd Avenue. Then, the car lost balance while turning west onto Peoria Avenue. Officials blocked the intersection for investigation for more than five hours.

Police reported that speed and impairment seem to be a contributing factor in the crash. Police have not arrested a anyone or issued any citations.

The incident remains under investigation.
