On Monday, authorities publicly identified 23-year-old Ahmed Alrawi and 81-year-old Suad Alsamarai as the victims who lost their lives following a two-vehicle accident Saturday in Midway District.
The fatal car accident took place at Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard. The investigation reports showed that Ahmed Alrawi and Suad Alsamarai were backseat passengers in a 2015 Toyota Sienna minivan that had stopped for a red light at Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard.
At that point of time, a westbound 1999 Toyota Tacoma hit a raised median at the road crossing at high speed just after 9 p.m. Saturday. Due to the impact, the pickup went flying and landed on top of the other vehicle. Alrawi and Alsamarai, both residents of El Cajon, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Responders transported the 31-year-old man who had been driving the truck to a hospital along with the other two people who had been in the minivan when the incident occurred. It is unknown if the driver of the pickup will face criminal charges over the deadly crash. His name has not been revealed at this time. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
