22-year-old man dead after a motorcycle slammed into a freeway sign in Chula Vista (Chula Vista, CA)

A 22-year-old man lost his life after a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Chula Vista.

As per the initial information, the fatal motorcycle crash took place at around 5:40 p.m. on Interstate 5 north of H Street. The preliminary reports showed that the motorcycle swerved onto the right shoulder at a high rate of speed and slammed into a freeway sign.

The motorcycle rider, who lived in Tulsa, Okla., was thrown from the bike due to the impact. He died of his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital. It is currently unknown if alcohol and drugs contributed to the crash. Investigators were awaiting a toxicology report from the county Medical Examiner’s Office. No other details are available.

The crash remains under investigation.
