Authorities identified 22-year-old Katherine Garcia as the woman who lost her life following a single-vehicle accident that also injured Pierre Angelo Betancourt Oliver on June 18 in Las Vegas.
The fatal car crash was reported at about 10:03 p.m. on southbound US 95 just north of mile marker 39 near Nelson’s Landing. According to the investigation reports, a blue Honda Accord was heading southbound on US 95 in the far left lane. At some point of time, the driver failed to maintain the vehicle’s marked travel lane and began to rotate counter-clockwise entering the southbound east shoulder for undetermined reasons.
After that, the car continued in the dirt center median and up an embankment causing the vehicle to roll over. The car reentered the roadway on US 95 northbound and drove across all travel lanes while overturning. The vehicle continued to flip ejecting the right-front passenger, a female adult identified as Katherine Garcia, from Las Vegas.
Garcia suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The driver, identified as Pierre Angelo Betancourt Oliver, was airlifted to University Medical Center Trauma through Mercy Air with unspecified injuries. Impairment was suspected to be involved in the accident, authorities reported. Pierre was detained by the Nevada State Police on multiple charges. No further details were provided.
The crash remains under review.
