On Thursday morning, a 21-year-old woman lost her life following a suspected DUI crash on M-53 in Macomb County.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place on M-53 near Clinton River Road at approximately 1:15 a.m. The early reports showed that a woman from Dayton, Ohio was heading northbound on M-53. The at-fault driver, a 45-year-old man from East China Township, failed to maintain control of his BMW and ended up crashing into her Nissan.
The man collided head-on with the start of a guardrail and the woman’s car roof was cut off when it went under a road sign. After that, both vehicles swerved off the road and downhill towards Henry Ford II High School, where one car came to a stop on the football field. The woman suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
On the other hand, the man was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. Officials suspect that drunk driving played a factor in the accident. Northbound M-53 at 18 Mile Road was shut down for several hours as crews worked at the scene. No other details are made available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
