21-year-old bicyclist dead after a hit-and-run crash in Detroit (Detroit, MI)

On Thursday, a 21-year-old man lost his life after he was hit by a minivan while riding his bicycle across a road in Detroit.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at about 8:30 a.m. on Gilchrist Street at West McNichols Road on Detroit’s west side. The preliminary investigation indicated that the man was riding his bicycle on Gilchrist Street and crossing West McNichols Road when he got hit by a dark-colored minivan.

The minivan did not stop and continued east on McNichols Road and turned north on Rutherford Street. On arrival, emergency personnel rushed the bicycle rider to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Officers said that the minivan had gray or tan lower panels and should have major damage to the hood and driver’s side headlight due to the collision. No other details are made available.

The incident remains under active review.
