Authorities identified 21-year-old Angelica Castillo and 19-year-old Tyler Mitchell as the victims who suffered injuries following a rear-end collision in Tehama County.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle crash took place at approximately 1:46 p.m. on South Avenue and Kirkwood Road. The early reports showed that the Orland High School bus was eastbound on South Avenue approaching Kirkwood Road while a Honda delivery van was following it.
At some point of time, the bus stopped at the railroad tracks just before Kirkwood Road. The delivery van, driven by Tyler Mitchell, pulled over and waited for the bus to continue. As the bus turned left onto Kirkwood Road, Mitchell went into the westbound lane of South Avenue and crashed into the school bus from behind.
Mitchell suffered a broken leg while Castillo, his passenger, received minimal injuries. On arrival, emergency crews transported both the victims to a hospital. There were reportedly 26 students on the bus at the time of the collision. Medics assessed seven students but no students were taken to the hospital. They were transported back to Orland High School. No other details are made available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
