20-year-old Stephen James Sims injured after a motorcycle crash in El Paso (El Paso, TX)

Authorities identified 20-year-old Stephen James Sims, of Fort Bliss, as the man who suffered injuries following a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in El Paso.

The motorcycle crash took place on Lee Trevino Drive. According to the investigation reports, 20-year-old Stephen James Sims was driving an Indian Scout Motorcycle north on Lee Trevino Drive when he got struck by a Volkswagen Atlas, driven by 70-year-old Lorenzo Hernandez, from Phoenix.

Reports further added that Hernandez was pulling out of a driveway along the 3100 block of Lee Trevino when he hit the motorcyclist. The force of the collision caused the man and his motorcycle to slide across the road. Sims’ leg was amputated during the slide.

On arrival, medical personnel rushed the man to Del Sol Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Officers stated that Failure to yield the right of way by Hernandez led to the collision. No other details are immediately available.

The crash remains under review.
