The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Kennewick. The accident happened on SR 240 at around 3:30 a.m.
A vehicle driven by Christopher Hernandez, 20 was travelling eastbound on SR 240 when it struck a median and rolled into the westbound lanes of traffic just past the Edison St. overpass.
WSP Trooper Sarah Clasen claims that the collision took place after KPD attempted to pull over the driver of a stolen vehicle. Before the collision, Kennewick Police briefly chased the motorist after he failed to stop.
According to the WSP, Hernandez was thrown as it rolled down an embankment and died as a result of his injuries.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the officials. According to Trooper Thorson, roads might be possible to reopen the westbound lanes of SR 240 by 7 a.m.
