2-year-old Mi’lania Pierite died of injuries she suffered following a DUI crash earlier this week in Arlington.
The fatal two-vehicle accident took place on Interstate 20 near the Highway 360 interchange Tuesday. Officials confirmed that 2-year-old Mi’lania Pierite succumbed to her injuries Thursday evening. According to the investigation reports, a Toyota Tundra pickup, in which Mi’lania was riding in, was hit by a suspected drunken driver, causing it to flip over a guardrail.
Due to the impact, Mi’lania’s car seat was ejected from the truck. On arrival, emergency responders airlifted her to Cook Children’s Medical Center and she had been in a coma and on a ventilator. Mi’lania’s father was trapped in the driver’s seat. Rescuers extricated him and he underwent surgery for a crushed femur. Her mother and 4-year-old sister are recovering from less serious injuries.
The suspected drunken driver, identified as 25-year-old Tyler Hampton, was charged with three counts of intoxication assault with serious bodily injury. Those charges will likely be added because of Mi’Lania’s death. No other details are available.
An investigation continues.
