Authorities are investigating a motor vehicle accident that caused a major chemical spill in Kentwood.
According to the Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, a delivery truck was carrying rolling carts of hospital linens just south of the weigh station, north of Kentwood.
The delivery truck slammed into the back of a tanker carrying a chemical labeled “1993,” a petroleum-based flammable cleaning solvent. The chemical substance leaked onto the road and down the roadside.
Officials stated that Acadian ambulances rushed one driver with substantial injuries and another with minor injuries to the hospital.
The Louisiana State Police closed the northbound lane and diverted the traffic onto Louisiana Highway 38 at the Kentwood exit.
