2 people injured after being hit by a drunk driver in Lafayette; 31-year-old Jessica Richard arrested (Lafayette, LA)

On Saturday evening, two pedestrians suffered injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Lafayette.

As per the initial information, the auto-pedestrian crash took place shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Congress Street and Madison Street. The early reports showed that a small dark colored sedan was heading westbound on Congress Street when the vehicle left travel lanes and hit barricades along the parade route near Madison Street as well as two pedestrians.

The two pedestrians suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and were rushed to area hospitals. The driver, 31-year-old Jessica Richard, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated 2nd offense and two counts of vehicular negligent injury. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
