On Tuesday, a woman and a child were injured following a DUI crash on I-40.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the Interstate 40 West near exit 209-A after getting reports of a hit-and-run crash. The early reports showed that the vehicle struck a guardrail but was abandoned when the officials arrived. An eyewitness informed the officers that they saw a man and woman left the scene on foot, carrying what looked like a lifeless child.
Reports further stated that officers later found all three, including the driver, 30-year-old Nathan King, near Lafayette and 8th Avenue South. According to the police, he smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech, and was unsteady on his feet. King agreed to drink “one long island iced tea” prior in the night. The child had a head injury and was going in and out of consciousness.
Both the child and the woman were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Authorities later determined that he had a suspended driver’s license. He is now facing six different charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, and a second DUI involving a child with serious injuries. No other details are available.
The incident remains under review.
