The La Joya Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash in La Joya in the morning. The accident happened at FM 2221 and 3 Mile line at around 4:58 a.m. The collision involved a tractor-trailer and a Mustang.
According to the police, the Mustang struck the tractor-trailer on its side while it was heading north. Two men inside the passenger car perished in the collision.
Police later identified the men as Weslaco native Tony Orlando Lopez, age 39, and the driver, Jose Antonio Carbajal, age 25, of Sullivan City.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is helping with the investigation of the fatal crash. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. there are no other details available at this time.
