On Sunday, two people lost their lives following a fiery crash on the far south side.
As per the initial information, the fatal traffic collision took place at about 2 a.m. in the 2800 block of South Loop 1604 near Jett Road. The early reports showed that one of the involved vehicles flipped over, landed in a ditch and caught fire. On arrival, emergency responders extricated one person from the wreckage and performed CPR.
Despite the lifesaving efforts, the victim was declared dead at the scene. Firefighters managed to extinguished the fire and found another person inside the vehicle. Three patients from the second vehicle were transported to Brooke Army Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Loop 1604 was closed in both directions as crews worked at the scene. No further details were provided.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
