2 people airlifted to a hospital after a multi-vehicle wreck in Prescott (Prescott, AZ)

Two people received serious injuries after a multi-vehicle wreck Tuesday in Prescott.

As per the initial information, the Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section actively responded to the intersection of Montezuma Street and Merritt Street at around 4:17 P.M. after getting reports of a three-vehicle accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Dodge truck, driven by a 27-year-old man from Pine, AZ. was heading northbound on Montezuma Street when he failed to slow in time for traffic stopped for the red light at the intersection of Merritt Street.

The Dodge truck then struck the back of a 2006 Toyota Solaris, which was occupied by a 63-year-old Prescott woman. The impact of the crash pushed the Toyota forward and into the rear of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler that was being driven by a 59-year-old Prescott man.

The force of the collision was significant. The driver of the Dodge truck and the driver of the Toyota Solaris were rushed to Yavapai Regional Medical Center before being flown to a Phoenix area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler received treatment at the scene for injuries sustained in the collision.

Traffic in the area was slowed and restricted for almost an hour and a half during the investigation and cleanup. Officers did notice possible indicators of impairment from the driver of the Dodge truck. A search warrant was executed on the driver of the Dodge truck and charges are pending toxicology results. No other details are available.

The wreck remains under review.
