On Thursday morning, two children suffered major injuries following a multi-vehicle accident in Yakima.
As per the initial information, the three-vehicle pile-up took place at the intersection of Naches Ave and Walnut Street. The preliminary investigation revealed that an officer noticed a truck known to be stolen and attempted to pull it over. The truck did not stop and the driver began to drive recklessly when the officer ended the pursuit.
Shortly after, the same officer was driving near the police station when they came upon the stolen truck at the intersection of Naches Ave and Walnut Street. According to the troopers, the driver of the truck slammed into the police cruiser as well as a white van in the intersection. There were three occupants in the van, including an adult driver and two small children under 5 years old.
On arrival, medical personnel rushed both the kids to the hospital with significant, but non-fatal injuries. The driver of the van was provided medical aid for minimal injuries. The driver of the stolen truck was treated at the hospital and was later booked into jail. No other details are immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
