On Thursday morning, two children lost their lives while a 1-year-old suffered critical injuries after the SUV they were riding in flipped over and landed in a pond in West Michigan.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at about 11:30 a.m. on James Street in Holland. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 30-year-old woman was driving an SUV when her vehicle struck a curb for undetermined reasons and flipped over into the pond along James Street.
After that, the SUV landed in about 3-4 feet of water, with three boys, including a 3-year-old, a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old child inside. Officials stated that the woman managed to come out of the car on her own and had unspecified injuries. On the other hand, the children were pinned inside the car.
Several firefighters got in the water and were finally able to get the children out. The 3-year-old and 4-year-old boys were declared dead at a hospital, while the youngest boy was listed in critical condition. The identity of the woman has not been revealed at this time and it was unknown if she was the boys’ mother. No further details were provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
