Authorities identified 19-year-old Christian Soriano, from San Diego, as the man who lost his life after getting hit by a passing semi-truck early Sunday morning in San Diego.
The fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place on Interstate 15 in the Mira Mesa area. Soriano was seen on the shoulder of the northbound freeway close to Carroll Canyon Road at about 5:30 a.m. He then stepped into traffic for undetermined reasons and got struck by a semi-truck driving at freeway speed.
The driver stopped after the collision and called 911 for help. Soriano received major injuries and was declared dead on the freeway. Soriano was a resident of San Diego and officials have notified family members. His death was ruled an accident. It is unknown why Soriano was on the freeway shoulder. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
