18-year-old Carlton Keegan dead after a car crashed into a tree in Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, CA)

On Wednesday afternoon, 18-year-old Carlton Keegan, of Scotts Valley, lost his life while one person suffered injuries following a single-vehicle accident in Santa Cruz.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place near the 300 block of Granite Creek Road at about 3:41 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that the 2006 Subaru went off an embankment and slammed into a tree. The car ended up on its roof after the accident.

Keegan and the 18-year-old male driver sustained major injuries. On arrival, medical personnel rushed both of them to Dominican Hospital where Keegan later died of his injuries. At this time, it is unknown if impairment was involved in the crash. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
