16-year-old Omar Ghawtah dead after a hit-and-run crash in west Harris County (Houston, TX)

Authorities identified 16-year-old Omar Ghawtah as the boy who lost his life following an auto-pedestrian collision on Tuesday in west Harris County.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place at about 10:47 p.m. in the 13100 block of Alief Clodine. The preliminary reports showed that the boy was being chased by a dog when he ran into the roadway and got hit by a vehicle. The victim, identified as Omar Ghawtah, was declared dead at the scene by the officials.

Authorities reported that the driver of a 2007-2014 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hit the teen and failed to stop to render aid. The suspect left the scene eastbound on Alief Clodine. Officers are looking for the suspect and the hit-and-run vehicle. No further details were provided.

The incident remains under active review.
