A 16-year-old boy lost his life and four people received injuries following a suspected DUI crash Sunday in Sonoma County.
As per the initial information, the four-vehicle pile-up took place at 11:13 a.m. on State Route 116 near Watmaugh Road in unincorporated Sonoma County. The preliminary reports showed that a reckless driver reportedly caused a head-on, four-car collision that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and led to the closure of State Route 116 for several hours Sunday.
The reports further revealed that a Cadillac heading westbound on SR-116 was seen passing cars over double yellow lines and driving into oncoming traffic, eventually colliding head-on with two other vehicles, then directly into the way of a fourth vehicle.
The Cadillac driver received major injuries and was trapped after the accident. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Manessis Alexander of Novato, was rushed to Queen of the Valley Hospital through an ambulance.
One of his passengers, a 16-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other 16-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital via a CHP helicopter. The driver was detained on suspicion of felony DUI drugs.
The driver of the second vehicle incurred minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital. Her passengers remained unharmed in the accident. The driver and 5-year-old passenger of the third vehicle also remained uninjured. The fourth vehicle’s driver had minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
