12-year-old Jacob lost his life and 11-year-old Christina is fighting for her life after a crash between an ATV and an UTV Saturday in Apple Valley.
As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at about 9 p.m. on Stoddard Wells Road. The preliminary reports showed that the children were riding a 2019 TaoTao all-terrain vehicle on Stoddard Wells Road when they were hit by a person driving an orange side-by-side utility terrain vehicle, or UTV, while heading eastbound on the road.
Authorities received a call for two unresponsive children. The 12-year-old boy, Jacob, was declared dead at the scene. The 11-year-old girl, Christina, was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital and later airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for medical treatment. The driver of the UTV left the scene after the collision.
An extensive search was conducted by the CHP and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department but the suspect or suspects still remain at large. Further evidence found on scene of the crash led investigators to believe the suspect vehicle may have been a 2021 Razor Turbo S or S4 in a Velocity Orange Madness coloration. No other details are available.
The incident remains under active review.
