11-year-old Christina “Tina” Bird died of her injuries after a hit-and-run collision in Apple Valley (Apple Valley, CA)

Officials identified 11-year-old Christina “Tina” Bird as the girl who died of injuries she sustained after a two-vehicle accident on July 2 in Apple Valley. The incident also claimed the life of 12-year-old Jacob Martinez.

The fatal hit-and-run collision took place on Stoddard Wells Road. Christina “Tina” Bird was declared dead on Wednesday at 8:50 a.m. Her 12-year-old friend Jacob Martinez also died in the crash. The two were on a trip to the high desert with their families for a Fourth of July tradition. Christina and Jacob were riding on the same ATV when they were hit by an UTV on Stoddard Wells Road.

The vehicle that struck them left the scene after the collision. The two children were found lying next to each other. Jacob succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Christina was on life support at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital after suffering several broken bones and a severed spinal cord before she died on Wednesday. Authorities believe that the suspect vehicle is a bright orange 2021 RZR Turbo S or Turbo S4. No other information is available.

The incident remains under active review.
