On Tuesday, two children, including a 10-year-old and 11-year-old, lost their lives while two others were hurt following a traffic collision in Bakersfield.
The fatal car crash took place on James Road at about 3:43 p.m. According to the investigation reports, a 14-year-old teenager was driving a white two-door Nissan Sedan with three other passengers ages 9, 10 and 11. They were heading west on James Road when the car crashed into a bulldozer that was stopped on the side of James Road on a dirt road facing south.
As the Nissan approached the bulldozer, the bulldozer began to travel south across James Road into the path of the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan attempted to avoid the bulldozer by drifting left but its right side slammed into the bucket of the bulldozer. The front right passenger, age 10, and the right rear passenger, age 11 succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
On the other hand, the driver and the left rear passenger, age 9, incurred only minimal injuries and were taken to Kern Medical for treatment. The identities of the victims have not been revealed at this time. The driver of the bulldozer, 69-year-old Gary Knox Dozier, of Wasco, remained at the scene and did not receive any injuries.
A part of James Road near Airport Drive was shut down for around 3 hours as crews worked at the scene. Alcohol or drugs did not seem to be involved in the wreck. No additional information has been provided by the authorities.
The crash remains under investigation.
