The Albuquerque Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Saturday morning. The accident happened on Interstate 40 west at milepost 154 at around 3:38 a.m.
Two people, identified only as a man and a woman, were fixing their Honda’s flat tire in the emergency lane. A Red GMC pickup, according to police, crashed into the Hyundai that was parked next to the Honda.
The woman was declared dead after they were taken to UNMH. The man was listed in critical but stable condition with a brain bleed. Their identities have not been disclosed by the authorities.
Raymundo Jaquez-Barallasco was inside the pickup when police arrived, allegedly with a strong alcohol odor and visibly red, bloodshot eyes. Jaquez-Barallasco is accused of driving while intoxicated (DWI), great bodily harm, and vehicular homicide on one count each.
