The Knoxville Police Department reported a two-vehicle crash on Friday.
The accident occurred on Interstate 40 between West hills and Papermill early morning.
According to the officials, a semi-truck without a trailer had crashed into another trailer truck.
The driver had to be extracted from the vehicle and was then transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He is reported to have suffered serious injuries.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
The interstate was shut down as the driver was rescued and the debris was cleaned up.
After the diesel fuel was cleaned, a few lanes reopened.
