According to the Gilroy Police Department, a hit-and-run accident occurred in Gilroy on Monday.
The crash happened near Wren Avenue and El Cerrito Way at around 8:55 p.m.
According to the officials, the driver of the car was identified as 54-year-old Derek Shingu.
The identity of the deceased will be released once the next kin is notified.
The suspect was charged and arrested for hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and vehicular manslaughter.
The officials are investigating whether drugs, alcohol, distracted driving, or speed played a factor in the crash.
No additional information regarding the fatal crash was provided by the Deputies.
